Project Description: 

The Purple Line will be the region’s first suburb-to-suburb (circumferential) rail transit line, providing direct links between activity centers in Maryland without passing through the D.C. core. It will also be one of the region’s first light rail lines.  The 16-mile Purple Line will feature 21 stations with connections to four Metrorail stations at Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton, as well as to MARC and Amtrak stations.

The region’s Transportation Planning Board voted in 2009 to include this project in the Constrained Long-Range Plan (CLRP) and TIP.
