Project Description: 

The Rail to Dulles project -- dubbed the Silver Line -- is a 23-mile extension of the Metrorail system from East Falls Church to Washington Dulles International Airport, and then west to Ashburn in Loudoun County.  The first phase of the project, completed and in operation during summer 2014, extends to Tysons Corner, Virginia's largest employment center, and Reston-Herndon, the state's second largest job location.  The second pharse of the project will extend through Reston-Herndon to Dulles airport and Loudoun County, with expected completion in 2018.

The construction project is managed by the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority (MWAA).  Service on the new line will be operated by WMATA (Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority).
