Comprehensive Planning

The Community Development Division develops and updates the County's Comprehensive Plan. The Frederick County Comprehensive Plan was last updated in 2010, and includes sections that cover natural conservation, historic preservation, support for agriculture, and transportation choice.

Countywide Transportation Planning

Frederick County’s most recent Master Transportation Plan was adopted in 2001. The plan explored different ways to fund transportation, and the relationship between land use and transportation, while also identifying next steps and a list of projects.

Long-term transportation plans for Frederick County are also included in the Comprehensive Plan. The 2010 Comprehensive Plan focuses on providing transportation choice to residents. The plan outlines policies that relate to: roads and highways; bicycles and pedestrians; and public transportation.

Plans for Specific Transportation Modes

The 2010-2011 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Update improves safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Operations and Maintenance

The Division of Public works is responsible for planning, design, and construction for improvements to the County road and bridge network. Projects that receive funding within the next six-years can be found in the County's Capital Improvements Program
