Planning Process Overview

Transportation projects are typically developed through state and local planning. Each of the region's jurisdictions have a different process for developing and executing transportation projects. Every year, the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board pulls together a list of these projects into a regional long-range transportation plan and a regional six-year program.

Public involvement is a key part of the transportation decision-making processes in every jurisdiction throughout the region. There are many different ways that citizens can have an influence.
